Stats: Mayank Agarwal scores a double century in his maiden Test at home

Mayank Agarwal made his maiden outing at home in Test cricket a memorable one, scoring his maiden hundred. He then converted it into a double century. He batted 371 deliveries for his 215 with 23 fours and six maximums. He shared a record partnership of 317 for the first wicket with Rohit Sharma who opened the batting for the first time in the longer format. Agarwal eventually got out looking for big shots with the score at 436/5. India declared their first innings on 502/7 after an hour.

2 – Mayank Agarwal became only the 2nd player to score a double century in his maiden Test innings on Indian soil. Dean Jones scored 210 in his maiden Test innings in India. The Australian scored it during the 1986 Chennai Test against the hosts which ended in a Tie.
4 – Mayank is only the 4th Indian to convert his maiden Test hundred into a double century. Karun Nair (303*), Vinod Kambli (224) and Dilip Sardesai (200*) are the other three players with this feat.
6 – Number of sixes Mayank hit during his 215-run knock; the joint 3rd most by an Indian opener in a Test inning. Navjot Singh Sidhu hit as many as 8 during his 124 against Sri Lanka in 1994 while Virender Sehwag struck seven in his 293-run knock during the 2009 Brabourne Test also against the Lankans.
Sehwag also hit six maximums during his maiden Test triple ton in 2004 against Pakistan. Mayank’s opening partner, Rohit Sharma, struck six sixes during India’s first innings.
215 – Agarwal is only the 2nd Indian to score a double century in Test cricket against South Africa. Virender Sehwag scored 319 in the 2008 Chepauk Test against the Proteas which is the highest individual Test score for India.
233.43 – Mayank has a batting average of 233.43 in first-class cricket whenever he scored a century. The Indian opener converted six of his nine FC tons into 150+ scores which includes two double tons and an unbeaten triple century.
371 – Mayank faced 371 deliveries during this innings; the most balls faced by an Indian opener in a Test innings in more than ten years. Gautam Gambhir was the last Indian opener to bat that long as he faced 436 deliveries for his 137 in the 2009 Napier Test against New Zealand.
2009 – Mayank Agarwal is the first Indian opener to score a Test double century in the present decade. The last Indian opener with a Test double was Virender Sehwag in December 2009 when he scored 293 at the Brabourne Stadium against Sri Lanka.
