India are currently playing the fourth ODI against the Windies at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma, the Indian batsman, did splendidly well and scored 162 runs from 137 balls with the help of 20 boundaries and four sixes. He didn’t shy away from playing his strokes and mauled the hapless opposition bowlers with sheer disparagement.
He started the five-match series with an incredible knock of 152 not out, which helped the Men in Blue trace down a mammoth target set by the Caribbean team. His partnership with Indian captain Virat Kohli, who scored 140, took the sting out of Jason Holder and Co. In the next couple of matches in Visakhapatnam and Pune, he failed to deliver.
Rohit keeps on piling records
Nevertheless, he made amends and put his best foot forward in the current match. Moreover, he also accomplished his 21st century and is currently fourth in the list of the fastest batsmen to reach 21 centuries in ODI cricket. To add to his delight, the Nagpur-born batsman now has the most number of 150 scores (seven) in the 50-overs format in merely 186th innings.
He has been a fulcrum of India’s top order for the last few years and the numbers manifest the same. He can also be proud of the fact that he is above the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who has five 150 plus scores to his name. Rohit is only 31 years old and he has quite a few years of international cricket ahead of him to garner more records under his belt.
Australian batsman David Warner, who is currently serving a year-long ban, is third on the list with five 150 plus scores. South African batter Hashim Amla is next on the elite list of batters. The hulk-like Chris Gayle has four of such scores. Kohli also features with four of them. Former Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya is sixth in the list.
