Pakistan, the semi-finalists of the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2021, are enjoying a dream run in the T20I format as they have won the most number of matches among all Test playing nations this year. The Men in Green continued their superb T20 World Cup form in the Bangladesh series as well as they clean swept the Bangla tigers 3-0.
It was a quick turnaround for the Pakistan team as they played 1st T20I just a week after a heart-breaking loss to Australia in the semi-finals of the World Cup but still managing to perform extremely well in the series to make it one-sided.
The Asian giants also equaled their record of winning the most T20I matches in a calendar year. In the year 2018, they had won 17 games which is exactly the same number this year too. They have a chance to break their own record when West Indies will tour them for 3 T20Is and also 3 ODIs in the month of December.
With South Africa, the second team in the list (15 wins) not playing any T20Is till the end of this year, Pakistan have already topped the list with 17 victories already.Meanwhile, Pakistan is the only team to win most T20I clashes in a calendar year twice. They were victorious on 17 occasions out of 19 matches in the year 2018 and this year they have managed to win 17 games out of 26.
Babar Azam leading Pakistan’s T20I team with brilliance
The Babar Azam led-side seems to just love the shortest international format as they are also the only team with most wins (114) in T20I history and also the only side with over 100 wins in this format. India, their arch-rivals, are behind them with 95 victories. The main reason behind Pakistan’s success in T20Is this calendar year has definitely been the opening partnership which the skipper Babar Azam and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan have shared.
The duo have shared the most partnership runs (1207), the most opening partnership runs (992), the most century partnerships (5) and many other this year. In Babar Azam, Pakistan has got a fantastic leader too who now has won second most T20Is (23) after Sarfaraz Ahmed (29) for the team in just 2 years time in charge of the captaincy role.
The team would want to end the year on a high by winning the series against the Carribean boys as they will be having the advantage of the home conditions as well. After the disappointment of New Zealand tour abandonment, the Pakistan side will be looking to win the series and overtake their own record of 17 victories against the men in maroon.
