Stats: Players who were dismissed most times on the first ball of an ODI innings

The World Cup Qualifier game against Scotland is one of such instances as Gayle got out by the first ball of the match. Scotland pacer Safyaan Sharif forced Gayle to play a delivery that swung late as the Windies opener was caught behind without scoring.
This was the 24th duck for Chris Gayle in the ODI format as it puts him only behind six players in the list of most ducks in this format. Among Windies players, Brian Lara has the 2nd most ducks in ODI format with 16 of them. Gayle now has 42 ducks across all formats; the 2nd most behind Courtney Walsh among Windies players in International cricket. This was only the 2nd time Chris Gayle was dismissed by the first delivery of the game. Doug Bollinger claimed his on the very first ball of in the 2010 Adelaide ODI.
Gayle also became the first player to be dismissed by the first ball of an ODI at the Harare Sports Club which is hosting its 144th ODI match. Overall, Scotland became only the 3rd Associate team to take a wicket by the first ball of an ODI against a full member nation. Bangladesh‘s Saiful Islam dismissed AP Gurusinha of Sri Lanka in 1995 Asia Cup before becoming a Test playing nation. Brendan Taylor of Zimbabwe got out by the first delivery against Canada in the 2011 CWC game.

Overall, Chris Gayle got out for the 6th time by the first ball of an ODI inning. These are the most number of instances a player got out on the first ball of an ODI inning. Four players got out by the first ball of the innings on four occasions. Except for Pakistan’s Imran Nazir, the remaining three players to have four such dismissals are left-handers. Adam Gilchrist got out by the first ball in ODIs on three occasions which the most for any player.
