Words fall short to describe the way Virat Kohli has batted in 2018 as he already completed 1000 runs in both Test and ODI formats despite resting himself from a couple of series. The Indian skipper smashed 140 runs in the first of the five-match ODI series against the Windies in a big run-chase. He bettered his effort in the second match scoring an unbeaten 157 in only 129 deliveries with 13 fours and four sixes.

Kohli, when he reached 81 in this game, became the quickest to complete 10000 runs in ODI cricket as he bettered Sachin Tendulkar’s record by 54 innings. Earlier, at the score of 30, Kohli became the quickest to complete 4000 ODI runs in a country taking only 78 innings for 4000 ODI runs in India. The Indian captain also went past 1000 ODI runs in 2018 when he went past 111 with a huge six. Kohli went past 1000 Test runs this year during the Rajkot Test match also against Windies.

Virat Kohli completed 1000 ODI runs this year in only 11 innings making him the quickest to complete 1000 ODI runs in a calendar year. Kohli scored as many as five centuries and three fifties this year. His lowest score among these 11 innings is 36 when he got run out. He was unbeaten on 46 in a short chase against South Africa earlier this year. Kohli was dismissed on 45 in an ODI at the Lord’s which the only other time he failed to score a 50+ in an ODI this year.

By completing 1000 ODI runs in only 11 outings this year, Kohli broke the record which he jointly held with Hashim Amla in 15 innings. David Gower, the first player to score 1000 ODI runs in a year in 1983, took only 17 innings. His record for fastest to 1000 ODI runs in a year stood until Amla completed 1000 in only 15 innings in 2010 which Kohli equalled in 2012.
