Mayank Dagar may not have made his India debut yet but the photogenic spinner from Himachal Pradesh has not been far off from headlines either. Last year, the 21-year-old cricketer stole the limelight after sharing space with India juniors’ coach Rahul Dravid in a TV commercial for an IT firm. Recently, Dagar made a revelation.
Nephew of former Indian captain Virender Sehwag, Dagar became a known face following his exploits in the Under-19 World Cup, 2016, in which India finished as the runners-up. Dagar, who gave India some hope in the final against the West Indies by taking three quick wickets, picked 11 scalps in four matches that he played in the tournament at an average of below 10, a strike rate of less than 20 and an economy of 2.88.
My game is my relationship
Dagar, who made his debut for Himachal Pradesh in Vijay Trophy in 2015 as a student, has quite a fan following. The cricketer is often compared to Indian captain Virat Kohli for his style statement and has fans numbering over a lakh on Instagram. Dagar has recently revealed the name of his crush.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Dagar revealed something that would surely leave several of his female fans disappointed. “Sonam Bajwa. She’s a Punjabi actress,” he said.
Bajwa is a 26-year-old model-actress who is active in Punjabi and Tamil films. A participant of the Femina Miss India contest in 2012, she played a leading role in the 2014 Punjabi film Punjab 1984.
The left-arm spinner, however, said that his relationship status is single when asked about it. “My game is my relationship. As one stays loyal with one’s girlfriend, I stay loyal with my game.”
Dagar has played 11 first-class and 10 List A games so far, taking 34 wickets in all. He was also signed up by Kings XI Punjab earlier this year for the Indian Premier League.
