Virat Kohli recently concluded his stint in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He was the skipper and couldn’t take his team through to the playoffs. To add to his woes, he triggered a neck sprain while fielding during RCB’s match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

He played the next match against the Rajasthan Royals as it was a must-win encounter for them. Following the conclusion of their tournament, he was scheduled to head to England and represent Surrey for his maiden County assignment. However, the injury has ensured that the Indian skipper has to replan his workload. He went for a diagnosis after which the decision was released in a statement by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

The big miss for Surrey

Meanwhile, Surrey is utterly disappointed as they will miss hosting the Indian captain. “It’s hugely disappointing that Virat won’t be joining Surrey for the month of June but we understand injuries happen and we have to respect the decision of the BCCI medical team to pull him from his stint with us,” Alex Stewart, the director of Surrey Cricket, was quoted as saying by dailymail.co.uk.

Previously, Virat wanted to spend some time in England before the start of the tour to get himself prepared for the T20I, ODI and Test series in the nation. The 29-year old had also kept himself out of Afghanistan’s maiden Test against India in Bangalore. He had earlier opted out of Men in Blue’s last assignment as well when India crossed swords with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in a T20I triangular series.

India will start their campaign in England with a three-match T20I series, which begins on July 3. The three ODIs will be staged thereafter from July 12. The five-match Test series will commence on August 1 with Birmingham being the venue for the opening Test. For the time being the focus will be on Kohli’s speedy recovery.
