The much-awaited ICC T20 World Cup is all set to take place in the second half of 2022. All the top international teams have already started to figure out the combination of players they will walk into the field with. Last year, Australia won the title for the first time defeating New Zealand in the summit clash.

India had a forgettable tournament last year as they bowed out of the tournament from the league phase. However, Rohit Sharma & Co will hope to shrug off their past failures and come to all guns blazing this time around when the big teams meet in Australia.

The selectors will have a tough time while picking the squad, especially the spinners. India has almost a dozen quality spinners who are capable of doing well at the highest level. Spinners will play a crucial part in big Australian grounds. It will be interesting to see the selection of the spinners for the tournament. Here are five Indian spinners who are in contention to feature in India’s squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup,

The champion leg-spinner is the favourite to win the “Purple Cap” in IPL 2022. He has been doing well for the Rajasthan Royals, picking up 22 wickets in 11 matches at a bowling average of 14.5, including a match-winning hat-trick against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He is amongst the best wrist spinners in the world at present.

Chahal will have an extra fire in the belly having missed the last T20 World Cup in the UAE. The Haryana-born spinner is the leading wicket-taker for India in the history of international T20s. He has 68 T20I wickets to his name in 54 games at an average of 25.33 including a six-wicket haul against England.

The 31-year-old leg-spinner is in the best form of his life and it can be very fruitful for the Indian Cricket Team in the upcoming World Cup if he manages to continue the good work. He is likely to be the sole spinner if India decides to play with only one specialist spinner on bouncy Australian wickets.
