Tamil Nadu cricketer overtakes Virat Kohli's yo-yo score

The yo-yo test has been a debated topic in the Indian cricketing fraternity and is one of the criteria to make oneself eligible for national team selections. Previously, a number of cricketers have faced the wrath of failing the test and subsequently was eliminated from their teams. Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, is known to be an epitome of maintaining fitness.

Prior to the tour of England, he passed the test with flying colours with a score of 19 out of 25. However, most recently, a certain player by the name of Arun Karthik, who recently played in the third edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), overhauled Kohli’s score. The 32-year old lately revealed his numbers and also mentioned the significance of staying fit.

“I had passed the Yo-Yo test a month back with a score of 19.2. You need to be in a very good shape in these tournaments. In T20 you have to be very fit. But that is not all. You also have to have enough experience and a better understanding of tough situations which would help you keep your calm. Just being a youngster would not help,” Karthik was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

Karthik’s career in brief

Karthik played for the Siechem Madurai Panthers and turned out to be a massive success for them. He was the leading run-getter of the tournament with 472 runs in ten matches at a gigantic average of 78.66. The Panthers beat Dindigul Dragons by seven wickets in the final and Karthik notched 75 runs from 50 balls to help his team chase down 118 runs.

The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer has also played in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL). He made his debut for the Chennai Super Kings back n 2010 and then went on to represent Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2011 to 2013. Nevertheless, he went unsold in the 2014 auction. In 17 IPL matches, the right-handed batsman has scored 51 runs at an average of 10.2.
