Team-wise one player who deserves a salary cut in IPL 2020

8) Rajasthan Royals – Robin Uthappa (3 crores)

Once again, it was Rahul Tewatia who rescued the Rajasthan Royals from falling further down the pit. It was a much-needed win for the team against Sunrisers Hyderabad after losing four games in a row. Now they will be more hopeful of regaining their lost momentum and strive for a place in the playoffs. For the latter to happen, firstly they will have to find a settled playing XI for their remaining fixtures.

Till now, most of their players’ barring Jofra Archer has been irresponsible. Especially some of their batsmen have pretty poor with their shot selection. In other words, they haven’t played according to the needs of the team. One of them is Robin Uthappa. The IPL veteran is yet to find his feet in his journey with the Royals.

Uthappa was brought by the franchise to add more experience to their squad. And that cost them around 3 crores. Then when the tournament started, he was given the responsibilities of their middle-order straight away, but it hasn’t gone as per their plans. Instead of playing sensible cricket, Uthappa has deserted the team in precarious situations.

He has scored only 51 runs in 5 games. More importantly, in a couple of run-chases, he threw away his wicket like a rookie where a partnership should have won the game for the team. Thus now, if he continues to play big shots at the expense of the team, then he deserves to be dropped from the side. Besides, he should also get a pay cut for setting a wrong example for the youngsters of the side.
