3) Sunrisers Hyderabad – Kane Williamson (3 crores)

It has been a shaky start for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2020. They started their campaign with a couple of losses and then followed it with two hard-fought wins. And then they again lost the momentum by dropping the game against Mumbai Indians but bounced back immediately with an inspirational performance against Punjab. Still, it will be a tough road for them ahead as they have also lost their premier fast-bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, to injury.

The other biggest concern is their wobbly middle-order, as nobody has shown enough promise. And that’s why to solve the problem, now they have drafted Kane Williamson into the playing XI. It is a good move considering his international experience and his ability to play different roles according to the needs of the team.

For long, Williamson has been under-utilised by the Hyderabad franchise. To an extent, the overseas player rule is also to be blamed for it. The right-hander has only played one complete season in his six-year stint in IPL. In that also, he proved his mettle with his 700 plus runs. That year he also took the team to the finals.

After doing all this, Williamson hasn’t been Hyderabad’s first choice when it comes to giving opportunities and as well as increments. His IPL salary is 3 crores, too low for the amount of his talent. His contemporaries like Virat Kohli and Steve Smith earn almost five times more than him. Thus its time the Sunrisers should try to accommodate him in the playing XI more often and also give him a contract worth his salt.
