Another incidence of failing to finish the game has cost the Chennai Super Kings dearly. Their recent loss to Kolkata Knight Riders again saw the team crumbling under pressure situations, an unusual sight. Now it will be a real test of the team’s character as they need to win most of their remaining games to make it to the playoffs.

Even with all the experience on the side, this Chennai unit has a pool of problems at their disposal. If their struggling middle-order is one, then their unsettled bowling attack is another. The latter has been a headache for them, and their only relief is the presence of Deepak Chahar. In recent times, the pacer has shown a lot of heart with his versatile bowling skills.

Chahar started as a new-ball bowler for the Yellow team in the 2018 edition. That season he played a crucial role in guiding Chennai to their third championship. Then, in the following season, he continued his growth as a cricketer as he shouldered the responsibilities of the team’s death bowling. So in just two years, he has become MS Dhoni’s go-to man in pressure situations.

Still, he has not been given his due credit as he earns a meager sum of 80 lakhs from his IPL contract. That is the lowest salary drawn by a player who is a regular member of the CSK playing XI. It is kind of unfortunate because Chahar has done everything possible the team has asked from him. Hence the franchise needs to reward him more, as he has been one of their consistent performers over the last two seasons.
