India’s veteran batsman Yuvraj Singh who was once a big deal in the Indian Premier League was bought by the Mumbai Indians for 1 crore at the last moment in the IPL auctions for the 2019 season. The hero who took India to the World Cup glory in 2011 has now revealed that he had more pressure on him when he used to get huge sums in the marquee T20 league.

Yuvraj Singh, who was once a big draw in the Indian Premier League, had been recruited by the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise for a record Rs 14 crore in the 2014 season. A year later, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) had signed him for a whopping Rs 16 crore. However, in the player auction held for the 2019 IPL, Yuvraj Singh went unsold in the first round before Mumbai Indians bought him at his base price.

Yuvraj Singh, who hadn’t scored an IPL fifty since the 2017 season, scored a 53 off 35 in Mumbai Indians’ opening campaign in the 12th edition of the IPL. In fact, some of the shots he played were so well crafted that those were vintage Yuvraj Singh. He played with class and style as he did ever so often for India in his prime. Yuvraj had his best IPL season when he played for RCB in summer of 2014. From 14 matches, he scored 376 runs including his tournament best of 83.

Yuvraj is no longer bogged down by the pressure of the big bucks

His form deteriorated ever since that IPL season of 2014. Yuvraj Singh’s IPL form hit the rock bottom in the 2018 season, playing for the Kings XI Punjab. As quoted by India Today- Yuvraj Singh, who is happy to have started a new IPL season on a high, said: “Probably this is the best I have ever prepared for the IPL. The last two, three months. I have been in Mumbai practicing and played the DY Patil tournament which is a very important tournament for us guys playing the IPL. And doing some extra work on the body, fitness, batting.”

“Those years when I used to get good money for the IPL.. there was more pressure then. There’s less pressure now. So I guess pretty happy I got the opportunity to play this year for Mumbai and looking forward to the season,” he said. “It’s about starting on a good note. I am glad I hit the ball well that night (vs Delhi Capitals). I just need to think well and bat according to the situation,” Yuvraj concluded.
