Mumbai Indians made some new additions to their squad at the IPL 2022 mega auction last week and roped in some new talents from India and abroad as they hope to take their legacy forward. Among them is a promising overseas talent Tim David who has been brought on board by the Mumbai-based franchise for INR 8.25 crore. This will be David’s second IPL season. He was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad in the 2021 edition.

As the emerging cricketer looks to make a mark in the 15th edition of the marquee tournament, former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has come forward and said that there will be a lot of pressure on the 25-year-old along with the expectations from his franchise due to a high price tag that he has. He also mentioned that the pressure got the better of many players in the past.

With the high price tag, comes a lot of expectations: Shane Watson

“Definitely, with the high price tag, comes a lot of expectations and pressure from your franchise. It is not until you get into the gametime when you really know how to absorb that pressure that is there. I have seen a number of players who have had that expectation and they thrived under it — Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer are those kinds of guys,” said Watson on the ‘ICC Review’ show.

“But there are a number of guys, you can see that the pressure suffocated their performance. Tim David of Singapore plays in the BBL, first time he has got the opportunity to play in the IPL and he will play for Mumbai Indians, so there will be pressure. It does provide different complexities and it is exciting about the IPL,” he added.

Tim David became the first-ever cricketer from Singapore to play the IPL when he had made his debut against the eventual champions Chennai Super Kings during the second leg of the previous edition in the UAE. RCB had made it to the playoffs for a second straight time but were knocked out by KKR in the Eliminator.

The tall cricketer had made his T20I debut for Singapore in 2019 and since then has gone on to feature in 14 matches having amassed 558 runs averaging 46.50. He is currently featuring in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) and has played some brilliant attacking knocks.
