The series in UAE in 2018 between Australia and Pakistan saw Mohammad Abbas rattle the Australian batsmen. The 29-year old bagged two five-wicket hauls in the second Test in Abu Dhabi to blow away the tourists and concluded the series with 17 wickets in two matches. Abbas can be very productive with the new ball in the Australian pitches and can be depended upon to curb the run flow as well.

While Abbas has still not played a Test in Australia, on the flip side the number one ranked Test batsman is yet to face him. At the same time, Steve Smith expressed his cautiousness in meeting the uncanny pacer on the field. The batsman has also challenged the pace battery.

In the only practice game, Abbas played at the WACA in Perth, he managed to snare two wickets. The skiddy customer, being a relatively unknown prospect, has the potential to run riot on the Australian batsmen and end up as the leading wicket-taker.
