Tom Moody, Lydia Greenway bag coaching jobs for Oval Invincibles in The Hundred league

Former Australia cricketer and currently a renowned coach, Tom Moody, has been appointed as the head coach for the Oval Invincibles for the ‘The Hundred’ cricket league set to begin in England next year. A total of eight teams will take part in the tournament that will be a 100-ball league and they will have both men and women teams. Former England batswoman Lydia Greenway has been picked as the head coach of the Oval’s women’s team.

Greenway, who played 14 Tests, 126 ODIs and 85 T20Is between 2003 and 2016 and won the Ashes five times, is one of the most accomplished woman cricketer England have produced. After retiring in 2016, Greenway has been coaching at Kent. She is elated over her new assignment as it involves working with some of the world’s best players.

“Coaching is something that I’m hugely passionate about. When you’re working with players who want to get better and improve all of the time, that’s special. I feel extremely privileged to have this chance,” Independent quoted Greenway as saying.

Tom Moody, who has been a member of the World Cup-winning Australian team, has earned a fair name as a coach in different formats. A veteran of eight Tests and 72 ODIs who played between 1989 and 1999, Moody is excited by the new challenge as well.

“Anything that is new and is innovative has an automatic appeal. From a coaching perspective it presents new challenges to test yourself against in a world-class environment. To be a part of the early stages of a tournament where you have the opportunity to set the tone around what the 100-ball format will look like is a unique opportunity,” he said.

No English coaches for men’s teams in The Hundred

Not a single men’s team in The Hundred has an English coach. While five Australians have bagged the contracts, one each from South Africa, Sri Lanka and New Zealand have been picked. The women’s teams, however, have a few English coaches.
