Sachin Tendulkar’s valiant 175 went in vain as India lost the match by just 3 runs after he was dismissed in the penultimate over. Australia had made 350 runs with Shaun Marsh (112) and Shane Watson (93) top scoring for the Australians. Sachin single handedly tried to take India to the win with some help from Suresh Raina (59). But it was not to be and India lost a close fought match.

Pakistan’s reply was as exciting as Indian innings with Mohd. Yousuf (73), Inzamam-ul-Haq (122) almost took Pakistan to the victory. But wickets in final overs left them 5 runs short of the Indian total. 

6. India 347-lost vs Australia 2009

Sachin Tendulkar’s valiant 175 went in vain as India lost the match by just 3 runs after he was dismissed in the penultimate over. Australia had made 350 runs with Shaun Marsh (112) and Shane Watson (93) top scoring for the Australians. Sachin single handedly tried to take India to the win with some help from Suresh Raina (59). But it was not to be and India lost a close fought match. 

5. New Zealand 350/9-won vs Australia 2007

Matthew Hayden (181), Shane Watson (68) took Australia to an imposing 346 runs. New Zealand slipped to 5-116 in the chase. But Craig McMillan (117) and Brendon McCullum (86) gave enough fire power to Kiwi chase and took New Zealand to the brink of victory which they completed thanks to some last minute hitting by Mark Gillespie (28 off 15). 
4. India 351/4- won vs Australia 2013

George Bailey (156) and Shane Watson (102) made Indian bowlers pay on a flat Nagpur pitch. Australia made a huge 350 runs in 50 overs. India began their chase with Rohit Sharma (79) taking India to 178/1 in 29 overs. Then Shikhar Dhawan (100) and Virat Kohli (115*) along with Captain Dhoni took India to victory in the last over. 

3. India 362/1-won vs Australia 2013

The same series saw Australia make 359/5 in a match in Jaipur. Phil Hughes (83), George Bailey (92) and Glen Maxwell (53 off 32) helped Australia to this big total. India lost just 1 wicket in the chase, that of Shikhar Dhawan (95) and Rohit Sharma (141*) and Virat Kohli (100 off 52) took India to victory in 43rd over. Virat Kohli scored India’s fastest century. 

2. Sri Lanka 411/8-lost vs India 2009

India scored their second highest total in 414/7 with Virender Sehwag (146), Sachin Tendulkar (69), MS Dhoni (72) scoring the majority of that runs. Sri Lanka’s chase was held together by Tillakaratne Dilshan (160) and Kumar Sangakkara (90 off 43). But SriLanka slipped briefly before Angelo Mathews (38) took Sri Lanka 3 runs closer to the target, but could not finish the game. 
1. South Africa 438/9- won vs Australia 2006

This is the match termed as the greatest match of all time. Australia made the first ever score of 434/4 thanks to Ricky Ponting (164) and Mike Hussey (81 off 51). South Africa came all cylinders firing with Graeme Smith (90 off 55) and Herschelle Gibbs (175) took South Africa within touching distance of the total. Mark Boucher (50) made sure South Africa over haul the target in the final over with just 1 wicket remaining. This is the highest total chased and the highest score made batting second in an ODI.
