Chris Tavare’ was the most preferred number batsman for England during the 1980’s. He had a tendency to bat recklessly against spinners and always tried to dominate them. However, Tavare’ showed maturity when his team need the most. England were made to follow on Pakistan. Tavare’ opened the innings and top scored for his team with a sturdy knock of 82 runs off 277 balls. It took him 236 balls to reach his fifty. He valiantly countered the fast bowling duo of Imran Khan and Sarfraz Nawaz who had brought them to their knees in the first innings.
