The Kolkata Knight Riders are one of the most iconic and successful teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team has won two titles thus far under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir. However, ahead of the 11th season of the IPL, the team was posed with some serious questions. With Gauti deciding to switch base to Delhi, the KKR management had this herculean task of naming a new captain.

However, they failed to pick a player who had a fairly good captaincy experience earlier in the auction. Hence, the management was forced to brainstorm and select the best out of available. There were quite a few names that were put forward for the captain’s role. Out of all these, Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa, and Chris Lynn were the strong contenders.

The fans were split between these three players and they had their reservations about the new skipper. The franchisee too built up the excitement for the new captain quite a lot. They had run a social media campaign with the hashtag ‘KKR ka captain Kaun?’ and got the fans involved in it. There were various opinions that were put forward and there were also several speculations that were circling around on the internet.

And, Dinesh Karthik it is!

However, the franchise put down the curtains on all the speculations today as they named their new skipper. In an exclusive Star India show called ‘The Knights Club’, KKR CEO Venky Mysore revealed the name of the captain. He said that Dinesh Karthik will lead the team in the eleventh season and added that he is quite an experienced campaigner. DK who was on the show along with Venky shared his opinions about the role and looked happy to shoulder the added responsibility.

KKR fans and the Twitterati was delighted to see DK as the new skipper. They shared their best wishes and hoped that the team would prosper under him. Some were also surprised to see DK being named the skipper ahead of Robin Uthappa. Furthermore, KKR fans definitely miss Gambhir.
