Hosts Bangladesh seem to have lost their grip in the ongoing second and final Test match against Sri Lanka at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. They still have a huge first-innings deficit to surpass having lost their top-order pretty early as they try to save this contest with one more day left.

Bangladesh staged an outstanding fightback in the first innings after they lost half their side with just 24 runs on the board when the duo of veteran Mushfiqur Rahim (175*) and Litton Das (141) carried out the rescue act with a solid 200-run plus sixth-wicket stand. The strong partnership eventually propelled them to 365.

Bangladesh lost the plot in the second innings as Sri Lanka gain command

Despite the hosts posting a competitive first-innings total, Sri Lanka in reply showcased a splendid batting display in their innings, and centuries from veteran Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal powered the visitors to a mammoth score of 506. Mathews top-scored with an unbeaten 145 while Chandimal scored 124 runs. For Bangladesh, veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan shined with figures of 5/96 while Edabot Hossain took 4/148.

The Lankans had a huge first-innings lead of 141 runs and Bangladesh had to get off to a good start in their second innings. Unfortunately for them, they never got the momentum that they needed in the first place and before they could even realize what was happening, they ended up losing four wickets quickly. Veteran opener Tamim Iqbal bagged a duck while Najmul Hossain Shanto and skipper Mominul Haque also walked cheaply.

Among the top-order only opener, Mahmudul Hasan Joy contributed with 15 runs. Asitha Fernando (2/12) and Kasun Rajitha (1/12) made an impact in the wickets column. The heroes of the first innings, Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das are in the middle and the onus would now be completely on them to bail the hosts out of trouble yet again with the series on the line and a day’s play left.

Here’s how Twitter reacted after the end of the fourth day’s play.
