The 2017 edition of Caribbean Premier League has entered into its second half and the action has started to heat up. Teams are reaching to a stage where every game is a must win. Same was the case with Guyana and Barbados when faced each other in an all-important clash today. Twitter erupted as Warriors defeated Tridents by 4 wickets in a mouthwatering clash courtesy Walton’s 92 off just 57 deliveries.

As it has been the trend whole season, Guyana skipper Martin Guptill won the toss and invited the visitors to bat. Dwayne Smith and Williamson started off cautiously and then tore into the opposition bowling. Both added 107 runs for the first wicket in 16 overs. Smith was the more aggressive batsman among the two and continued to play his strokes throughout. The Magnificent opener scored a mind blowing century off 70 balls powered with 10 fours and 5 sixes. Warriors, despite the blitzkrieg from Smith, finished on a below par 159/4 after 20 overs.

The perfect chase

In reply, the new opening pair of Chadwick Walton and Sohail Tanvir provided the hosts with a quick start as Guyana posted 50 on the board in the fifth over. Tanvir was dismissed soon but Walton continued his display of power hitting as all the other batsmen found it tough to score. It proved to be a one man show as it was for Tridents and Walton blazed his way towards another century of the match.

Unfortunately, his innings was cut short by Kieron Pollard in the 17th over. Walton scored 92 off just 57 balls and his innings was studded with 7 fours and 6 huge maximums. The hosts won the match by 4 wickets despite having a late wobble thanks to Kieron Pollard’s 4/16 with the ball.

Twitter erupted as Smith’s century was not enough for the Tridents to win and hailed Walton for his power hitting.
