The 5th edition of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is set to get underway on August 4th which will witness 30 league games and 4 playoffs played across 37 days. This edition will begin with four games played in the USA. The Jamaica Tallawahs are the most successful team in CPL history bagging the title twice while Barbados Tridents and Trinbago Knight Riders (Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel) won once.
Ahead of the new season, we look at all the stats and records of the CPL.
3 – Number of teams who finished in top 4 in all the 4 seasons; Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs and Trinbago Knight Riders are the three teams.
3 – Number of times the Amazon Warriors have made into finals of the CPL; 2013, 2014 and 2016. They lost all the three finals.
3 – Number of centuries Chris Gayle has scored in CPL; four other players have scored 5 centuries in CPL. Dwayne Smith is the only player to hit more than one century in the tournament.
5.2 – Sunil Narine’s economy rate of 5.2 in the CPL is the best for any player who has bowled at least one ball. He has conceded 800 runs in the 153 overs he has bowled in the tournament.
6/6 – Shakib Al Hasan’s figures of 6/6 for Barbados Tridents against Red Steel in 2013 are the best figures in CPL. Only three other five-fers have been recorded in the tournament so far.
10 – Number of fifties Lendl Simmons has scored in the CPL; the most by any player. Andre Fletcher has 9 fifties while Chris Gayle has 11 fifty-plus scores with 8 fifties and 3 tons.
11 – Number of stumpings Dinesh Ramdin has affected in the CPL; 5 more than the next best Nicholas Pooran (6 stumpings).
16.43 – Shakib Al Hasan’s bowling average in the CPL is the best among the bowlers who have bowled a minimum of 300 balls in the tournament. He has taken 23 wickets in the 21 games he has played.
22 – Number of matches St Lucia Zouks have lost in the CPL; they are the only team to lose more than 20 matches in the tournament so far.
26 – Number of wins for Jamaica Tallawahs in the CPL; the most by any team. Barbados Tridents won 25 matches so far.
36 – Number of catches Kieron Pollard has taken in the CPL; he is the only player who has taken over 25 catches in the tournament so far. Andre Russell has plucked 23 catches.
52 – Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel’s total of 52 against Barbados Tridents (2013) is the lowest total in the CPL so far.
58.5 – AB de Villiers’ batting average in the CPL is the highest for any player who has played a minimum of 5 innings. De Villiers scored 234 runs in the 5 innings including two fifties.
68 – Wickets Dwayne Bravo has taken in the CPL; the most by any player. He is one of the three players to bag 50 and more wickets in the tournament so far.
100 – Number of fours Chris Gayle and Lendl Simmons have hit in the CPL so far; they are the only players to hit 100 fours in the CPL history.
105 – Number of sixes Chris Gayle has hit in the CPL so far; he is the only player to hit 100 sixes in CPL. Andre Russell hit 62 sixes in the tournament.
111* – Chris Gayle’s unbeaten 111 against St Lucia Zouks in 2014 is the highest individual score in CPL so far. He scored it while playing for Jamaica Tallawahs.
178.69 – Batting strike-rate of Andre Russell in the CPL; the highest batting S/R for any player who has played more than 5 innings. Russell has scored 847 runs in the 37 innings in just 474 balls.
212/5 – Guyana Amazon Warriors’ total of 212 against Antigua Hawksbills is the highest total in the CPL so far. They scored it in the 2014 edition.
1452 – Runs Chris Gayle have scored in the CPL; the most by any player. Only six players including Gayle have aggregated 1000 runs in the CPL.
