The 14th game of the ongoing IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 featured a clash between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, April 1. Mumbai, looking for their first win of the season, came to bat first after losing the toss. 

The side opened with Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma. However, the opening spell of star RR pacer Trent Boult saw Rohit being sent back to the pavilion for a golden duck. Furthermore, Naman Dhir and Dewald Brevis fell prey to Boult on golden ducks as well. 

Opener Kishan added 16 runs to the board. After the failure of the top order, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma aimed to stabilise the innings for Mumbai. Pandya amassed 34 runs in 21 deliveries, with Varma scoring 32 runs in 29 balls. Furthermore, Tim David added 17 runs in 24 deliveries as Mumbai Indians were limited to a total of 125 runs in the first innings. 

As for Royals, Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal were the highest wicket takers, with three wickets to their names. Nandre Burger took two wickets, with Avesh Khan striking once as well.

Riyan Parag’s red-hot form propelled RR to third consecutive win

Attempting to chase down the target, Rajasthan Royals’ opening pair failed to go big once again. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed by youngster Maphaka on a score of 10 runs in six deliveries. Jos Buttler added 13 runs on the board, with skipper Sanju Samson failing to go big as well, only managing 12 runs to his name.

After the first three wickets, it was the knock of in-form Riyan Parag who scored yet another half century, scoring 54* runs in 39 deliveries and winning the game for his side. Furthermore, Ravichandran Ashwin scored 16 runs in just as many deliveries as Royals chased down the target in 15.3 overs, winning the game by six wickets.
