Uganda registered their first win of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Thursday, June 06, at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, as they got the better of Papua New Guinea. After suffering a defeat in their first game against Afghanistan, the Brian Masaba-led side came back strong to taste their first victory of the campaign. Winning the toss, Uganga opted to field first.
Papua New Guinea had a horrible start to their innings, losing their top order under the powerplay. Uganda bowlers kept the pressure on their opposition and regularly picked wickets. Frank Nsubuga was the best performer with the ball for Uganda as he ended with figures of 2/4. Papua New Guinea's batters had a bad day as none of them could take their side out of this crunch situation and were bundled out for 77 runs within 19.1 overs.
In the chase, Masaba and Co. too didn't have a great start with the bat, losing four wickets in the powerplay, with the score standing at 25/4. It was Riazat Ali Shah's knock of 33 runs that helped Uganda register a three-wicket victory.
Let us take a look at the highlights from the match:
1. Frank Nsubuga creates history with the ball
The 43-year-old Nsubuga had a wonderful day with the bowl in his hand as he scalped two wickets of Hiri Hiri and Charles Amini who were looking to build a partnership. The veteran offspinner became the bowler to concede the least runs in a four-over spell at Men's T20 World Cup. He went past South Africa's Anrich Nortje who recorded this feat a few days back against Sri Lanka.
What a memorable night for 43-year-old Frank Nsubuga, who bowled his 4 overs and conceded only 4 runs!

2. Riazat Ali Shah takes his side over the line
The 26-year-old right-hand batter took it upon himself to guide his side to their first victory of the T20 World Cup 2024. As wickets kept falling from one end, Shah kept his cool and rotated the strike well. In his 56-ball stay, he scored 33 runs hitting just one boundary.
After 12 overs, Uganda stands at 54/5

Uganda have won their first game at a World Cup. Strolling to 78 with only the seven nervy wickets and 18.2 mad overs.

They were embarrassed in that first game. They won their second. They have given us quite the ride already. Job done.
