India and Zimbabwe locked horns in the last match of the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 stage at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The Men in Blue have already qualified for the semi-finals, and a win against Zimbabwe would mean they play the knock-out game against England, who finished second in their group’s points table.

The game against Zimbabwe was a special one for skipper Rohit Sharma as he achieved the special feat of captaining India for the 50th time in T20Is. As good as a feat it was, he wasn’t able to leave an impact while opening the batting for India. Sharma was dismissed for a poor score of 15(13), which included two fours.

Sharma looked to hit the ball for a boundary, but Wellington Masakadza was perfectly placed at the square leg boundary, which is longer in distance at the MCG. Blessing Muzarabani claimed his first big wicket when he dismissed Rohit Sharma and got his side the crucial breakthrough. Of the five games that India has played at the tournament’s Super 12 stage, Sharma has only one half-century to his name.

He scored a 39-ball 53 against the Netherlands and helped India get off to a good start. But that has been the only highlight of his campaign at the T20 World Cup 2022. In the other four games against Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, Sharma gave away his wicket easily, adding to India’s opening lineup woes.

His form with the bat has been a major concern for India, but the Indian middle-order tries and manages the innings to lead the team to a win. In recent games, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav have been the assets for the Indian batting lineup, as even KL Rahul has not been consistent in this tournament.

India, Pakistan, New Zealand and England qualify for Semi-final

Four teams have qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament. While New Zealand and England have qualified from Group 1, India and Pakistan are the two teams from Group 2 to have made the cut to the knockout stage. The first semi-final will be played on November 9, whereas the second semi-final will be played on November 10 which will be followed by the summit clash on November 13, 2022.
