The Chittagong Vikings finally managed to win a game at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram as they thumped Dhaka Dynamites by 11 runs. Moreover, they also booked a place in the playoffs. Meanwhile, this edition’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has turned from bad to worse for the Shakib Al Hasan-led Dynamites as they now lost their fifth match out of their last six encounters.

Delport goes big

The Vikings won the toss and had no hesitation to bat first and they racked up 174 for five in 20 overs. Mohammad Shahzad and Cameron Delport added 42 runs in 32 deliveries after which spinner Sunil Narine got the former stumped for 21 runs. Yasir Ali strained a wee bit and scored 19 runs at less than a run-a-ball before being dismissed by Narine. Thereafter, Mushfiqur Rahim joined Delport in the middle.

The duo added 79 runs in 46 balls to inject momentum into the innings. Delport went on to score 71 runs from 57 balls with five boundaries and four over-boundaries. Rahim also played a useful hand of 43 runs from 24 deliveries. In the meantime, fast bowler Andre Russell became the third bowler to pick a hat-trick in this BPL. He nipped out Delport, Rahim and the Sri Lankan Dasun Shanaka in his last over.

Dynamites go down

Dhaka got off to a poor start in their run-chase as Rony Talukdar and Sunil Narine perished early. Mizanur Rahman was the third wicket to fall. Nurul Hasan flung the willow to score 33 runs but was trapped in front by Delport. Kieron Pollard succumbed to a horrendous run-out. The hulk-like Russell took on the bowlers and notched 39 runs from 23 balls with four boundaries and a couple of huge sixes.

He was a tad lucky as Delport cleaned him up with a no-ball. After his dismissal in the 17th over, Shakib Al Hasan took charge and raced to a well-compiled half-century. Unfortunately, Shanaka nipped him out in the penultimate over and that dented the Dynamites’s chances of a victory. With 18 runs needed off the last over, Jayed didn’t miss his line and helped his team cease the three-match losing streak.
