Indian women’s team and Bangladesh women’s team made it to the finals of Asia Cup 2018 after both the teams bagged eight points each in the league stage. However, it was Indian team, who finished on top of the points table with a better NRR. Both the sides took against each other in the final on Sunday at the Kinrara Academy Oval, Kuala Lumpur.
Before coming to the final, Bangladesh already defeated Indian team in the league stage. With physiological advantage, the Asian tigers stepped into the final, won the toss and put Indian side to bat first. The team in green was never on wrong side in the first innings as they took crucial wickets in important junctures.
Team India lost 7 wickets for just 74 runs in 15 overs. With just five overs to go in the innings, someone should step up for the side and it was none other than the skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who took the team to a respectable total of 112/9 in 20 overs. Kaur scored a valuable 42-ball 56-run knock before getting out on the final ball of the innings.
With 113 runs to win the final, Bangladesh openers occupied the crease. They added 35 invaluable runs before getting out to Poonam Yadav. She picked a total of four wickets and kept the batting side on back foot. On the other end, it was Ekta Bisht, who kept pressure on Bangladeshi batswomen despite not picking wickets. Jhulan Goswami was quite expensive as she conceded 20 runs in her two-over spell.
In what turned out to be a low-scoring thriller, Harmanpreet Kaur took the ball in the 18th over and picked a crucial wicket of Fahim Khatun. Deepti Sharma bowled a brilliant penultimate over by giving just four runs. 9 runs were needed for Bangladesh in the final over and captain Kaur failed to contain the opposition in the heart-pounding over.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Bangladesh’s win
If India's fielding was at least 10% better, they would have still won it.

Bangladesh take two off the final ball to clinch the Asia Cup! What drama, what post-game scenes. Will remind you of the 1999 World Cup, with fans running into the ground – flags and all.
Historic day for Bangladesh cricket. #INDvBAN

India will rue some shocking and terrible fielding. Hopefully it awakes them and they make the necessary changes.

.@ImHarmanpreet did everything right in this game except falling a little short on the last ball of both the innings. Still a splendid effort 👏 #AsiaCupFinal

Shocking fielding. India's fielding has been poor for a long period of time and it continues.
