Against their opening fixture of IPL 2020, Steve Smith-led Rajasthan Royals put up a dominant 216-run total against Chennai Super Kings. It was an absolute treat to watch Royals’ innings, which was filled with 17 towering sixes.

At the start, RR failed to stitch an opening partnership as 18-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal was shown the exit door by Deepak Chahar. However, next in the line was wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson, who decimated CSK’s bowling force by smashing 1 four and 9 sixes in his blistering knock. He slammed a 19-ball half-century, hitting sixes for fun against the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Piyush Chawla.

Along with Samson, skipper Smith also stayed at the crease until 19th over and weaved a vital 69-run knock. After Smith’s departure in the penultimate over, the possibility of RR crossing the 200-run mark was looking vague. But Jofra Archer’s astonishing display with the bat provided RR with late fireworks.

The speedster flaunted his batting forte and played a quick-fire 27 run cameo to steer his side past the 200-run mark. Archer slammed Lungi Ngidi for four consecutive sixes in the last over as RR became the first team in IPL 2020 to cross the 200-run mark.

Archer slammed two steep maximums on the first two deliveries of the over. Ngigi, under pressure, bowled a no-ball on the third delivery which Archer dispatched into stands. It didn’t end there as Ngidi bowled another no-ball and Archer backed away to hit it high over long-off. Archer’s four sixes against Ngidi resulted in the South African leaking 30 runs in the 20th over.

Samson’s explosive batting show and Archer’s blistering cameo was vital in RR’s success in amassing 216 runs on the board. Twitter, in no time, was flooded with praises for Archer after he flaunted his batting ability too. After putting up an impressive show with the bat, the Rajasthan side will be looking to put up a strong bowling display too.

CSK, on the other hand, will be hoping to clinch a successive victory under their belt. MS Dhoni had thumped defending champions Mumbai Indians by five wickets in the season opener at Abu Dhabi. Archer can emerge as an ideal candidate for Man of the Match award if he also impresses with the ball.
