Twitter Reactions: KKR flatter against Gujarat Lions

Two of the top teams of the competition clashed at Kolkata in a bid to race ahead of the one another. Kolkata Knight Riders walked into the game as the favorites since they were playing at home. For the Gujarat Lions, it was about getting their act together after losing their last 3 matches.

Kolkata Knight Riders, for the first time in the season, didn’t get the start from their openers at home. Both the openers Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa failed to score and got out cheaply. Things didn’t stop there as the middle-order collapsed too, with Manish Pandey and Suryakumar Yadav falling cheaply. It was all down to the pair of Yusuf Pathan and Shakib Al Hasan to steady the ship. The duo did really well. They put on an unbeaten stand of 134 runs in 90 balls to take the score to a slightly below par total of 158/4 in 20 overs. Yusuf plundered an unbeaten 63 off just 41 balls with 7 fours and a six while Shakib was unconquered in his knock of 66 off 49 balls studded with 4 fours and 4 sixes.

The Gujarat Lions got off to a cautious start with their openers Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith mixing caution with aggression. They lost Smith in the last over of the powerplay but then McCullum took over as the aggressor. Suresh Raina struggled and lost his wicket soon. McCullum played a cameo before getting out. It was Dinesh Karthik’s experience that came in handy for the Gujarat Lions. The wicketkeeper batsman scored a gritty half-century in just 27 balls to take Lions close to victory.

He was unlucky not to have finished the game. Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning runs and finished it with a six. Here are best tweets from the match:
