Maratha Arabians put up a thoroughly comprehensively display in their game against the Rajputs in their first game of the second round of the T10 League. Their bowlers first restricted the opposition batsmen to a meagre total after which the Arabians’ openers gunned down the total without much fuss. They have now got two crucial points on the board with a thumping 10-wicket win while the Rajputs are left with a lot of deliberation.
After opting to bowl first, the Arabians never let the Rajputs batsmen off the hook. The likes of Mohammad Shahzad and Brendon McCullum tried hard to make an impact but the bowling was too good for their efforts. The spinners Rashid Khan and Roelof van der Merwe were exceptional in the early part of the innings and the ploy of bowling them worked wonders.
The pressure kept on piling on the Rajputs with no run-scoring and their heavy dependence on the top-two came back to haunt them. Only Ben Dunk reached the double-figure mark as he scored 15 runs off 9 deliveries but the others never got going. Eventually, the Rajputs could only post 63 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 10 overs which was never going to be enough.
Zazai and Hales rip apart the bowling attack
The Rajputs needed a more clinical effort with the ball to make the total look bigger. But Hazratullah Zazai and Alex Hales didn’t make much fuss about the chase. The former’s aggressive approach turned the game into a highly one-sided encounter and within the powerplay overs it was a no contest. They added 39 runs in the first three overs and then Hales got into the act as well.
64 runs were easily chased down with five overs to spare by the Maratha Arabians in what turned out to be one of the most comprehensive victories in this season of the T10 League. While Zazai remained unbeaten on 29 off just 12 balls, his partner made 27 off 18 deliveries as the duo smashed a total of six fours and four maximums.
Here’s how Twitter reacted during the game:
