Rajasthan Royals and the Royal Challengers Bangalore are battling it out for a place in the final in the Qualifier 2 of IPL 2022 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 27. While RR would be eyeing a first final appearance after the inaugural edition in 2008, RCB would be eager to make it to the summit clash after 2016.

Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson won the toss in this royal clash and decided to bowl first. Batting megastar Virat Kohli made a statement right away as he took on New Zealand pace spearhead, Trent Boult, to the cleaners in the very first over. However, he was accounted by Prasidh Krishna for seven runs in the following over as he chased a delivery bowled outside the off stump.

Rajat Patidar rises to the occasion yet again

After Kohli’s dismissal, in walked RCB’s Eliminator hero Rajat Patidar who had eliminated the Lucknow Super Giants with a quickfire 112* off 54 deliveries. He, along with skipper Faf du Plessis, then carried out the rescue act for Bangalore. Patidar was also given a reprieve by youngster Riyan Parag and he made RR pay for it by scoring a scintillating half-century which also happened to be his second consecutive 50-plus score in a tense knockout encounter.

Faf was dismissed for 25 after a 70-run stand for the second wicket along with Rajat after which Glenn Maxwell followed post a cameo knock where he scored a 13-ball 24 including a four and two sixes. After reaching his half-century, Rajat Patidar looked to accelerate the innings for RCB, but could not last for too long and was caught by Jos Buttler off Ravichandran Ashwin in the 16th over as he went back after scoring 58 runs from 42 deliveries.

In the death overs, the wicket seemed to slow down a bit as the famed middle-order including Mahipal Lomror and Dinesh Karthik failed to time the ball well. Towards the end, the Rajasthan bowlers staged a remarkable comeback and literally ran through Bangalore’s middle-order to restrict them to a manageable total of 157/8.
