Suryakumar’s magical knock of 94* from 53 balls helped Mumbai to outclass Karnataka in a crucial encounter in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 competition. The right-handed batsman from Mumbai was playing at his helm best when he took the crease against Manish Pandey and Co. and went unbeaten in the game.
Mumbai won the toss and elected to bowl first and bowlers proved their skipper’s decision right. Shams Mulani, the left-arm spinner dismissed KL Rahul in the second over of the innings. Later on, Shardul Thakur bowled Manish Pandey out and that was a big blow for Karnataka. Moreover, Shivam Dube took the wicket of Karun Nair in the fifth over.
After a top-order collapse, the Karnataka opener Devdutt Padikkal (57 runs off 34 balls) and middle-order batsman Rohan Kadam (71 off 47 balls) stitched a brilliant partnership of 80 runs and helped their side to reach a respectable total on the scoreboard. In the end, Manish Pandey and Co. ended up with a competitive score of 171 with six wickets in 20 overs. The side batting first was delighted with that score because at one point they were struggling with three wickets at 19 runs.
During the chase, Mumbai got off to a poor start and lost their opener Aditya Tare at a score of 20 runs. But, Prtivi Shaw kept playing in his red-hot form, he smashed three boundaries and two sixes in his small knock of 30 runs before getting dismissed by Praveen Dubey with a mistimed shot.
Suryakumar Yadav gives a match-winning performance yet again
Suryakumar Yadav then came to bat and joined Shreyas Iyer. But, before a partnership could be built, the latter departed after playing a strange knock of 14 off 20 deliveries. From there, the Mumbai skipper took the difficult task on his shoulder and went onto smash Karnataka bowlers all around the park. The match went close and Mumbai was in need of 32 runs in three overs.
In the 17th over, Yadav was on the strike, who smashed four consecutive boundaries off Ronit More and Mumbai was brought back into the game. In the penultimate over, Shivam Dube hammered the final nail into the Karnataka coffin and smashed a brilliant six against Abhimanyu Mithun over wide long-off. In the last over, Suryakumar scored the victory run and helped his side to clinch a win in a close encounter.
Suryakumar Yadav smacked 94* runs in 53 deliveries with 11 fours and four sixes in his swashbuckling knock. And, Twitter went busy hailing the match-winning performance by the Mumbai captain.
Here is how Twitter reacted:
