Virat Kohli returned into the squad for Bangladesh Tests after cherishing a small vacation. However, the first game for the Indian skipper didn’t go well and was dismissed on the second delivery itself. But, in the second game, he returned with a brilliant fifty on the Day 1 of the historic Test that is being played at the Eden Gardens and has converted into a century.

Ahead of the game, the 31-year-old needed only 32 runs to become the fastest skipper to score 5000 runs in Test. However, he achieved that milestone on the first day of the game. He was at his best and was playing all the shots from his cricket dictionary against Bangladesh bowlers. He recorded his 23rd fifty with a boundary against Ebadat Hossain in 76 deliveries.

Virat Kohli becomes first Indian to score a ton in day-night Tests

During the match, an incident happened when Ebadot Hossain was spotted clapping for Virat Kohli after being hit for a boundary on the fourth ball of the 17th over. The Indian captain timed the shot perfectly to leave the Kolkata crowd in his awe with a classic cover drive.

On Day 2, Virat got off to a slow start giving due respect to the Bangladesh bowlers. But soon he started dealing in boundaries. It looked like the change in the ball didn’t affect the game of Virat, who played some traditional cricketing shots that were a treat to watch for any cricket enthusiast. The Indian skipper also stitched a brilliant 99-run partnership with Ajinkya Rahane, who was caught by Ebadat Hossain at the backward point off Taijul Islam. Rahane also batted well and scored 51 runs before getting out.

In the 66th over of the innings, Virat Kohli played a brilliant cover drive off Ebadot Hossain and grabbed a boundary that took him to a score of 99. However, in the next over Kohli got his 100th run with a double off Taijul Islam to record the 27th Test ton of his career and 20th as the skipper of Team India. He also became the first Indian to smack a century in pink-ball Test.
