The second day of the U19 Asia Cup 2018 yet again was a witness to a couple of one-sided affairs as India and Sri Lanka brushed aside United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong to inch closer to the semi-finals. In the meantime, Hong Kong and UAE have been eliminated from the tournament in Bangladesh with one match remaining to be played for both the teams.

Match 5

India U19 vs United Arab Emirates (UAE) U19 Group A

After a thumping start to their campaign, Pawan Shah’s men thumped UAE by a mammoth 227 runs in Savar. Opener Anuj Rawat and Devdut Padikkal scored 102 and 121 respectively to law the platform for a massive score. Both batsmen smacked 25 boundaries and seven sixes to take the sting out of the hapless UAE bowlers. Shah and Ayush Badoni’s contribution took India to 354/6 in 50 overs.

During the run-chase, UAE lost wickets at regular intervals and were never in contention for challenging India’s humungous score. Barring, their third-wicket stand of 53 runs between Ali Mirza and Figy John, there wasn’t any contribution worth mentioning. Left-arm spin bowler Siddarth Desai picked up a six-wicket haul in 8.5 overs and guided his team to another win.

Brief Scores

India U19: 354/6 in 50 overs; (Devdut Padikkal 121, Anuj Rawat 102; Alishan Sharafu 2/46, Aaron Benjamin 2/88)

UAE U19: 127 all out in 33.5 overs; (Ali Mirza 41, Figy John 24; Siddarth Desai 6/24, Sameer Choudhary 1/9)

India U19 won by 227 runs.

Match 6

Sri Lanka also continued their rich vein of form by beating Hong Kong in Chittagong by 10 wickets. Lanka won the toss and had no hesitation to bat first and the decision didn’t backfire by any means as Hong Kong were bundled out for a paltry 56. Shashika Dulshan picked up a five-wicket-haul and only one batsman, Adit Gorawara, could get into the double figures.

Left-arm spinner Dulith Wellage and left-arm fast bowler Kalana Perera also contributed with a couple of wickets in their 11 overs. The run-chase turned out to be a doddle for Sri Lanka as they knocked the runs off inside the 10 overs. Nipun Perera and Nishan Madushka notched 35 and 21 respectively to carve another thumping win for the Lankans.

Sri Lanka U19 vs Hong Kong U19 Group B

Hong Kong U19: 56 all out in 33.1 overs; (Adit Gorawara 10, Nasrulla Rana 9; Shashika Dulshan 5/19, Dulith Wellalage 2/5)
