Indian fast bowler Umesh Yadav, who performed exceptionally well in India’s long home season,  has said that marriage made him a matured cricketer and that his wife Tanya constantly motivated him by saying that he had the capabilities to perform much better and he wasn’t working as hard as he should.

Umesh, who will not play KKR’s first two away games due to an injury, spoke about how he found his rhythm back after not being a team India regular.

“I was left out of a Test, I was left out of a certain series. I never felt settled. But I think the maturity that I have now came after I got married. Then you start thinking about the other person, and know that there’s someone there for you always. Then you start thinking about the future more practically” Umesh told the Indian Express in an interview.

Umesh and Tanya got married in 2013, and his lady love is often spotted in stadiums to support Umesh live.

“Once my wife (Tanya Wadhwa) came into my life and the first 2-3 years (they married in 2013) she saw the ups and downs, she started pushing me harder. She was like yes you’re doing well and trying hard, but I think you can try harder and do better. She kept saying, “Umesh you have that ability. I think you’re not doing as much as you can,”.

Umesh also revealed that it was his wife’s wish that people recognize him as a ‘world class fast bowler’ and said that he hopes to toil away even more for the fans to call him by that tag.

Umesh will not play KKR’s first two away games, against Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Lions, but will join the team for the 3rd game against Kings XI Punjab at Eden Gardens.
