Back in 2012, the Indian U19 team won the U19 World Cup in Australia. Unmukt Chand, a Delhi-born cricketer, was the leader of the pack and he captained the team to glory by beating the hosts in the Final in Townsville. While chasing 227, the right-hander notched 111 runs from 130 balls to guide his team. He was thereafter picked to play in the IPL as well, but unfortunately, he couldn’t replicate his form.

He is presently struggling to stay put in his position in the Delhi team, however, despite the travails, he isn’t ready to drop the gun by any stretch of the imagination. The 25-year old also lashed out at biased team selections owing to political obligations. Nevertheless, he wishes to score tons of runs and cement his place in the team.

It was just so illogical

“Since last 2 years, there have been reports about the selection-bias happening in Delhi. There were unnecessary names getting picked due to political pressure. When it’s happening with you, it gets onto you as a player. After a time, these things don’t bother you. Just for instance, I was leading the India A side till a few months back and all of a sudden, I don’t find my name in the shorter version of the game.

It was just so illogical. But these things do happen. I am an advocate of good things, and I want to make sure these things don’t happen again. I want to score so much that they can’t even think of dropping me,” Chand was quoted as saying in an exclusive interview by Cricxtasy.

Earlier this year, he also sidelined from the Delhi team. He also featured in India A’s squad for a couple of years. He recently played for the Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League in Bangladesh. Chand showed impressive touch with 258 runs in five matches at an average of 51.60 to go with a couple of half-centuries.
