On a day where he swept aside all the bowlers and so many records, Virat Kohli will fail to keep an account of what all he has achieved today. The Indian skipper outplayed the Lankan bowlers and sued them down en route to a sensational 243, which happens to be the sixth double century he has scored inside 17 months.

Apart from becoming the first player to score six double centuries as a captain, Virat Kohli also registered the highest individual score at Feroz Shah Kotla, beating the legendary southpaw from the 1950s Bert Sutcliffe. He was on a roll, was the Indian skipper and he also surpassed his personal best score of 235, which was the highest score by an Indian skipper previously.

Adding more glory to his illustrious list of achievements, he became the sixth cricketer from India to score a double-century on home turf. Legendary Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was the first ever Indian cricketer to score a double ton in his home ground and the great man achieved the feat in New Delhi back in 1964.

Kohli joines Gavaskar and Kambli in the elite list

After MAK Pataudi, Dilip Sardesai, father of popular journalist Rajdeep Sardesai, secured a crucial double century against New Zealand at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai and became the second cricketer to score a hundred on home ground. Sunil Gavaskar followed the suit and registered a breathtaking double-century against a strong Windies contingent in 1978 in Mumbai. Unlike Sardesai, he scored his double at the Wankhede.

Vinod Kambli became the third Mumbaiker to score a double century in Mumbai as he clobbered the English unit at the Wankhede. After him, the discarded Indian opener Gautam Gambhir played one of the knocks of his life against a very compact Australian side at Delhi in 2008. He scored 206 runs in that game and to accompany him, VVS Laxman remained not out on 200.

After all these big names who had a humongous impact on Indian cricket, Virat Kohli scored his fifth double ton in India and his first at his beloved home ground, the Feroz Shah Kotla. Here’s the list of all the Indian cricketers who scored a double ton on their home grounds.
