Virat Kohli’s India started off 2019 as one of the best years in the country’s cricket history. They registered two historic feats in the month of January – first winning the Test series 2-1 and then backing it up with a win in the ODI series by the same margin. Given the fact that India also drew the T20I series 1-1 earlier in the tour last year, this is the first time that an Indian team returned from Australia unbeaten in any of the formats.

The latest tour also ensured that India have now beaten the Kangaroos in their den in all the three variants of the game. Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, India had walloped Australia 3-0 in a T20I series in 2016. This time, they added victories in the Test and ODI formats as well under the leadership of Virat Kohli.

India finally had an overseas tour in last one year that went in their favour

India made quite a few foreign tours in the last one year starting from South Africa. There they won the ODI and T20I series but lost in the Tests while in England, they won only the T20I series and slumped in the ODI and Test series. The victory in the two formats in Australia hence saw a marked improvement in India’s game and captain Kohli had boundless joy over the achievement.

Kohli took to Twitter on Friday to express his happiness and did not forget to credit the teamwork for the memorable wins. “Great series win and total team performance. So happy to finish the tour on a high. Jai hind,” the 30-year-old cricketer said in his tweet which also featured photographs capturing happy moments after India won the ODI series.

Although MS Dhoni was picked as the Man of the Series for his three successive half-centuries, there were other top performances from others like Rohit Sharma’s 133 in Sydney and Yuzvendra Chahal’s 6 for 42 in Melbourne besides Kohli’s 104 in Adelaide where India levelled the series. Kohli’s tweet was a salute to the overall team effort and it showed India are on the right track ahead of the ICC World Cup due in May-July.
