Yuvraj Singh is arguably one of the greatest cricketers India has ever produced. He made his debut way back in 2000 against Kenya and never looked back ever since in the Champions Trophy. He scored a masterful half-century against Australia in the same tournament, facing the likes of Brett Lee and Glenn McGrath and the knock captured the imaginations of the fans and the experts.

Thereafter, he kept on garnering a number of laurels in his illustrious career. Back in the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa, the southpaw unfolded utter mayhem in the England camp as he smacked Stuart Broad for six over-boundary in one over at the Kingsmead in Durban. However, his most resounding performance came in the 2011 edition of the World Cup in the Indian sub-continent.

Yuvraj came into his own in the 50-overs tournament and scored 362 runs in nine matches at an average of 90.50. Furthermore, the Chandigarh born all-rounder picked up as many as 15 wickets. The performances earned him the Player of the Tournament award. In the same year, he was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his left lung and went through chemotherapy treatment.

Nevertheless, Yuvraj didn’t allow the situation to unnerve him and he made a return to the cricket field after a few years. He played the 2017 edition of the Champions Trophy and then toured the West Indies for a bilateral series. That series turned out to Yuvraj’s last appearance in international cricket. Today in a press conference, he announced his retirement from international cricket.

Kohli drops his wish for Yuvraj Singh

After the announcement, cricketers from around the globe wished him on the stupendous journey. Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, also lauded Yuvraj on the journey. Yuvraj and Kohli played 33 T20Is, 64 ODIs, and three Tests together. Kohli thanked him for all the memories and victories and went on to call him an ‘absolute champion’.

He captioned the picture and wrote, “Congratulations on a wonderful career playing for the country paji. You gave us so many memories and victories and I wish you the best for life and everything ahead. Absolute champion. @YUVSTRONG12,”
