Indian skipper Virat Kohli is one of the most marketable athletes of today’s times but what is more appealing is his work ethics and the kind of importance he gives to fitness. Kohli’s fitness standards have inspired many cricketers and followers, and it has been seen as a benchmark by many of his fellow teammates. The 29-year-old not just piles up huge amount of runs in the field but his involvement in fitness related activities is what sets him apart.

The right-handed batsman started off as a chubby boy but it didn’t take him much time to transform himself as one of the fittest cricketers around. Many a time, he said that he realised that the lack of fitness is stopping him from giving his best and that is when the transformation began.

Kohli gives a sneak peak

In an episode of Gaurav Kapur’s chat show Breakfast with Champions, Kohli revealed his diet plan throughout the day. “My breakfast is set. I eat an omelette, three egg whites, one whole egg, spinach with black pepper and cheese, some grilled bacon or smoked salmon with it. I eat papaya or dragonfruit if it is available, watermelon. I eat a decent amount of cheese for good fats. After that, I carry my own butter and I get gluten-free bread from the hotels. So I apply it on that. A nice big pot of green tea with lemon. I drink 3-4 cups of that,“ Kohli said.

Kohli is also one of the busiest cricketers around the globe as India plays a lot of cricket in a calendar year and being the skipper, he hardly misses out on a series. But that didn’t turn out as an excuse. He also credited team India’s fitness trainer Shankar Basu for helping him out.“When our trainer Mr Basu tells me to put on a bit of muscle, then I increase red meat, otherwise generally for lunch, it is grilled chicken and mashed potatoes, spinach and veggies and for dinner its seafood,” Kohli added.
