Words cannot anymore do justice while describing Virat Kohli who has already taken over many legendary names in the prominent batting lists with his consistency in his 9-year career. The chase-mater was handed the additional responsibilities of leading the team which has only enhanced his game and passion for the game further as he is now setting new benchmarks in all the aspects of the sport.

On occasion of Virat Kohli’s 29th birthday day, we look at his achievements in International cricket.

1 – He became the first player in Test cricket to score double centuries in four consecutive series. He scored double hundreds in consecutive series played against Windies, New Zealand, England and Bangladesh in 2016 and 2017.

1 – He is the only captain to have three whitewashes in 5-match ODI series. India won 5-0 under his captaincy against Zimbabwe in 2013, against Sri Lanka in 2014 and 2017.

7 – Number of consecutive bilateral series’ Virat has won as captain between 2013 and 2017 in ODI cricket. He is the only Indian captain to win seven consecutive bilateral ODI series.

9 – India won nine consecutive ODI matches this year under Kohli which is the joint most for an Indian captain. Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni also won nine in a row as Indian skippers.

12 – Number of consecutive wins in International cricket for the 28-year-old as a captain earlier this year. He is the only Indian captain to win ten consecutive International games.

18 – His 18 fifties are the most for any player in T20I cricket. No player has more than 15 scores of fifty and more other than Kohli.

19 – He has scored 19 centuries in ODI cricket while chasing which is the most for any player. His 17 centuries in successful chases is also the most for any player in this format.

19 – Virat’s first loss as captain in International cricket at home came in the 20th game which is the most matches any captain sustained before suffering their first loss at home. Sunil Gavaskar led India in his first 17 International games at home without a defeat.

20 – Number of International hundreds for Virat Kohli as a captain. Only Ricky Ponting (41) and Graeme Smith (33) have more tons as captains across all formats.

27 – Innings he needed to complete 1000 runs in T20I cricket. He is the quickest to reach the 1000 T20I runs milestone.

32 – He has the 2nd most number of centuries in ODI cricket after Sachin Tendulkar (49). He recently went past Ricky Ponting, who scored 30 ODI hundreds.

52 – His 52-ball century against Australia in 2013 in Jaipur is the fastest ODI hundred by an Indian. His 61-ball hundred in the same series stands as the 3rd fastest ODI ton for an Indian.

65.29 – Kohli’s batting average in ODI cricket while chasing is the highest for any player with minimum 1000 runs. His average of 93.64 is the 2nd highest in successful ODI chases behind MS Dhoni’s 102.72.

84.84 – He is the only player with an average over 50 in T20I cricket while chasing. He has an average of 84.84 in T20I chases. (Min: 500 runs) His batting average of 120.14 is by far the highest for any player in successful run chases in this format.

235 – His 235 against England in Mumbai last year is the highest individual score for an Indian captain in Test cricket. The 82 he scored against Sri Lanka in a T20I earlier this year is also the highest individual score in T20Is for an Indian skipper.

1103 – T20I runs he has scored while chasing; the most by any player. Brendon McCullum (1006) is the only other player with 1000 T20I runs in chases.

1460 – Kohli’s 1460 runs in 2017 are the most by a captain in ODI cricket in a calendar year. His six ODI centuries this year is also the most for any captain in a year.

4000 to 9000 – He is the quickest to reach 8000 and 9000 runs in ODI cricket. He is also the fastest to 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000 and 9000 runs in ODIs for India. Kohli also holds the record for being the quickest to 1000 and 2000 ODI runs as captain.
