With the high-voltage ICC T20 World Cup 2021 being underway, analysis and predictions are coming in from different parts. The gala tournament is taking place in UAE and Oman this year and it would be interesting to see which team gets the glory. Speaking of the competition, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar said he wishes to see India and Pakistan battling it out in the final.

Notably, the two arch-rivals will kick-start their respective campaign in the competition on October 24 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Pakistan side will have the onus to defy history as they have never defeated India in a World Cup match. In T20 World Cups, the two sides have crossed swords five times with the Men in Blue emerging victorious every single time.

Even the ICC wants India and Pakistan to be in the final: Sunil Gavaskar

With Indo-Pak clashes getting so much hype, Gavaskar reckons a final between these two sides would be fascinating to watch. “I would like to see India in that final, and Pakistan. What else does anybody want? Even the ICC wants India and Pakistan to be in the final,” Gavaskar said on Salaam Cricket 2021.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram, who was a part of the same panel, picked India, Pakistan, England, and West Indies as the four semi-finalists for the T20 World Cup. He also reckoned New Zealand’s chances would be dependent upon the weather.

“New Zealand’s chances really depend on the weather I feel. It is hot now and if it remains like this, it will be difficult for them but then by October, it will be pleasant. For me, the four sides that can reach semis are India, West Indies, Pakistan, and England,” the legendary fast bowler opined.

While Gavaskar echoed Akram’s views on the semi-finalists, he feels no team starts as favourites. “I don’t look at either team as a favourite. The team that handles the pressure well on the day, the team that can control its mistakes, like no balls, can do well,” he stated. The 72-year-old also advised other teams to beware of West Indies.
