Former Pakistan coach Waqar Younis believes India-Pak series should be revived as it one of the best cricket rivalries of all time. Talking to media persons at a local hotel in Islamabad, he said India-Pak cricket series must never be stopped and should be revived. Apart from facing each other in ICC events, the bilateral impasse between the two sides has remained.

On talks about the revival of international cricket in Pakistan, he mentioned that hosting Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in Karachi in the coming edition will send a positive message to the whole world that Pakistan is a safe country for sports activities.

The country has already successfully hosted the finale in Lahore in the previous edition, followed by a successful World XI Tour of Pakistan. It was also successful in hosting a rather wary Lankan team earlier last month. If the PCB is able to bring cricket to Karachi this year, it really would help in Pakistan’s case of reviving cricket.

“World XI and Sri Lankan team’s tour to Pakistan has sent a very positive message to the world that Pakistan is safe for all kinds of sports,” he remarked.

A better time to be with Islamabad United ahead?

Waqar, who is also PSL team Islamabad United’s bowling coach, said he is hopeful that his team would do well in the third edition of the league with the increase in local talent in Pakistan. They were plagued by a fixing controversy after PCB provisionally suspended Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Irfan, Shahzaib Hasan and Nasir Jamshed from playing any form of cricket for being allegedly involved in spot-fixing.

Shaheen Afridi and Muhammad Hussain are the two new talented bowlers that have come to fore,” he said.

Responding to a question, he said fast bowlers getting unfit is part of life and praised Pakistani ace bowlers, Muhammad Amir and Hasan Ali. However, he said that domestic cricket needs to be improved in order to get the best players at international level.

“Coach Mickey Arthur is handling the team very well and producing good results,” he said.
