Washington Sundar spotted bowling in the India nets ahead of first ODI

17-year-old Washington Sundar is taking great strides in his career after the youngster found success in the domestic Indian leagues. Coming through the ranks of TNPL and IPL clubs, Sundar has impressed one and all with his skills and temperament. Ahead of today’s encounter between India and Australia in the first of the five ODIs, quite a few local talents were given the opportunity to roll their arm over in the nets. The cricketer from Tamil Nadu was also noticed delivering a few overs to the Indian batsmen in the nets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

The young all-rounder has recently played in the warm-up game between Australia and the Indian Board President’s XI. He came lower down the order and scored 11 runs from 13 balls. With the ball, he took the prized wickets of Steven Smith and Glenn Maxwell and returned with impressive figures. With an astonishing economy of 2.87, he was the Board President’s XI’s most economical bowler in the contest.

Sundar has the potential to develop into a genuine all-rounder

The right-arm off break bowler has recently been in a rich vein of form, performing with both bat and ball. He was an integral element of the Albert Tuti Patriots in the TNPL 459 runs in 9 games, finishing as the tournament’s top run-scorer. He also picked up 15 wickets in the event and turned out to be the league’s second highest wicket-taker.

The left-handed versatile batsman was also a part of the Rising Pune Supergiant team in this year’s Indian Premier League.

India has a vast pool of budding cricketers and it’s not easy to stand out without performing consistently. Washington Sundar has capitalized on the opportunity with both hands and has come under the limelight on the back of some brilliant performances. Going forward, he can be a handy prospect for Indian cricket as a genuine all-rounder.
