England pacer Steve Finn didn’t find a place for himself in the national XI after all-rounder Ben Stokes and pace bowling spearhead James Anderson made a comeback to the team in the second Test against Pakistan at Old Trafford, Manchester. Finn was thus free to represent his county side Middlesex in Royal London One-Day Cup match played at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, London against Kent.

Kent won the toss and elected to bat first. The Middlesex bowling attack comprises of the likes of Ireland right-arm seamer Tim Murtagh, former New Zealand international James Franklin and James Fuller along with Finn. Kent didn’t have a really pleasant start as they lost opener Joe Denly early in the inning with the scoreboard reading just 5 runs in the 3rd over of their inning. Skipper Sam Northeast was the second one to fall.

It was the last ball of the 6th over, Finn ran in and bowled one on the middle and leg line, the ball was shaping into Northeast and he tried to play it away on the on-side. The ball took the top edge off his bat and flew straight up. It looked like it would fly over the head of the bowler but the tall man Finn is and the perfectly timed jump that he put in got him there in time and he had the opposition skipper showing them his back really early in the game.

Later in the inning Kent opener Sean Dickinson batted exceptionally well but fell just one run short of the triple-figure mark, he was bowled by Finn and was the pacer’s second wicket. He finished with figures of 10-2-31-2 as Kent managed to post 238 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 50 overs.
