Cricket is a tough sport. Players are always prone to injuries. There is definitely is no time and place where one can pick injuries. Even if we neglect all other circumstances of getting injured, a batsman, batting against a fast bowler bowling from 22 yards away is always the risk of getting hit with the 156-gram hard leather ball.

Same was the case with South African all-rounder Vernon Philander. In this video, the all-rounder was hit in the most painful and the inappropriate place on the body- Crotch not once but twice! It may look funny but no one can argue about the kind of distress one goes through after getting hit there.

Emerging Australian fast bowler Joe Mennie struck Philander in the crotch area twice in a single match during the match between the ‘A’ sides of South Africa and Australia. The first time, a straighter delivery which cut back to the batsman sharply and beat Philander to cause him pain. As one would expect, the South Africa showed his discomfort immediately and the Physio had to come in.

The painful afternoon had not come to an end for the Philander after he was shortly struck at the same place by the same bowler once again. This time, there was greater discomfort evident. He threw his bat and was later found lying on the field.

The physio had to have an extended time in the middle healing him before he could finally get ready to bat again. His stay at the crease did not last for long as the right-hander was immediately clean bowled in the same over. He seemed completely uninterested playing the shot while getting out. Well, no surprise there. After getting hit twice in the most sensitive area hardly any batsman would want to stay in the middle.
