The clash between Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes will be the battle between the top and bottom of the points table. Thunder are placed 2nd with four wins in five matches. The Sixers are on the top only with a 0.03 margin of better NRR than the Thunder. Harmanpreet Kaur’s consistency has helped them big time as she scored 45, 56, 33 and 52* in the four appearances this season. On the other hand, the Hobart Hurricanes are placed at the bottom of the table with five losses in six games.

The Hurricanes are on a three-match losing streak while the Thunder on a three-match winning streak. This will be a milestone game for any many as four players. Thunder players Alex Blackwell, Nicola Carey, Rene Farrell and Hurricanes’ Veronica Pyke will feature in their 50th game in the Women’s Big Bash League history. Blackwell has featured all the 49 matches as captain and will be the second player in WBBL history to lead in 50 matches after Ellyse Perry.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The Manuka Oval has hosted only one WBBL game thus far that too in the previous edition. The Thunder bowling rattled through the Melbourne Renegades to bowl them out for 68 which is one of the top three lowest totals in the WBBL history. Sydney Thunder needed 16 overs and lost six wickets for chasing the total. However, the BBL game played after that on the same pitch ended up producing 180+ totals.

Squads:

Sydney Thunder:

Hobart Hurricanes:

Sasha Moloney (C), Brooke Hepburn, Stefanie Daffara, Erin Fazackerley, Corinne Hall, Alex Hartley, Mikayla Hinkley, Heather Knight, Smriti Mandhana, Rhiann O’Donnell, Meg Phillips, Veronica Pyke, Georgia Redmayne.

Probable XI:

Sydney Thunder:

Alex Blackwell (C), Rachael Haynes, Rachel Priest, Naomi Stalenberg, Stafanie Taylor, Harmanpreet Kaur, Nicola Carey, Rene Farrell, Maisy Gibson, Sam Bates, Lisa Griffith.

Hobart Hurricanes:

Sasha Moloney (C), Smriti Mandhana, Heather Knight, Erin Fazackerley, Stefanie Daffara, Corinne Hall, Georgia Redmayne, Veronica Pyke, Brooke Hepburn, Alex Hartley, Meg Phillips/Mikayla Hinkley.

Power Picks:

Stefanie Daffara has tried to make most of the field restrictions for the Hurricanes. She made a 15-ball 27 against the Sixers with five fours and a 29-ball 31 after coming to bat in 6th over in the previous match. Leg-spinner Maisy Gibson claimed seven wickets in the tournament including 3-fers in two of the previous three matches.

Best Playing XI:

Rachel Priest, Smriti Mandhana, Heather Knight, Harmanpreet Kaur, Stefanie Daffara, Stafanie Taylor, Nicola Carey, Erin Fazackerley, Maisy Gibson, Sam Bates, Brooke Hepburn.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

The Indian star players Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur are ideal options for multipliers. Though Mandhana has struggled for consistency, she could make a difference on her day. Stafanie Taylor has always played a key role for the Thunder with her all-round skills. Heather Knight has not only been important with the bat for the Hurricanes this season but also contributed with the ball.

Expert Advice:

With the likes of Mandhana, Harmanpreet, Knight and Haynes in the list of batters with high price tags, it will come down to only three of them making it to the playing XI. The four players are collectively value for 39 credits and it goes up to 49.5 including Stafanie who is a must in the XI. Both the keepers Georgia Redmayne and Rachel Priest cost nine credits apiece leaving 41.5 credits to pick five players.

There is no way to complete the team with all these six players as not more than one player who is expected to be in the XI for this game possess as few as eight credits. Rachel Haynes can be excluded as she is returning after recovering from an injury. However, she scored a brilliant 40 in the previous match despite carrying a back injury.

Probable Winners:

Sydney Thunder will obviously be the favourites going into this game due to their form.
