West Indies v India 3rd Test, Day 1 – Statistical Highlights

West Indies seems to have taken some positives out of the 2nd Test match as they started off the 3rd Test at the Darren Sammy International Stadium, Gros Islet dismissing the Indian top order early in the game. However, despite a slow start, India came back well with an unbeaten century stand for 6th wicket finishing the day at 234/5. Here we look at all the stats recorded during 3rd Test, day-1 play.

1 – For the first time, KL Rahul has scored a fifty in Tests. He converted his three previous fifty plus scores to centuries.

3 – Ravi Ashwin became only the 3rd Indian and first Indian spinner to score two fifty plus and pick two five-wicket hauls in a Test series.

4 – Number of boundaries India have scored between 21st and 80th over. They scored 5 fours in the last 3 overs.

9 – Ravi Ashwin is now only the 9th spinner to score two fifty plus and pick two five-wicket hauls in a Test series.

19y 263d – Alzarri Joseph’s age at the start of the game. He became only the 2nd youngest West Indian to open the bowling for his side in Tests. Jerome Taylor opened at the age of 19y 5d.

23.25 – Virat Kohli’s average at No.3 in Tests after this innings. He has scored 93 runs in 5 innings at that spot. Last time he batted at No.3 was in 2012-13 season against Australia at home.

2011 – Last time 3 out of top 5 Indian batters got out for single digit scores against West Indies in a Test inning was in 2011 at Bridgetown. These are only the two instances in the last 15 years for India against West Indies.
