Team India survived a real lower-order scare on the fifth and final day of the first Test against Australia to seal a memorable win in Adelaide. This was their first victory down under in last ten years and also for the first time in the country they won the opening Test of the series. Fittingly, Ravi Ashwin, after toiling so hard in the second innings, took the final wicket. However, amidst all the celebrations after the victory, the head coach Ravi Shastri admitted to be under extreme pressure in his own style.

After reducing Australia to 187/7 with Tim Paine back in the hut, the game should’ve finished long ago. But Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon made life difficult for the visitors. Even the last wicket partnership added 32 runs. Even the body language of the bowlers and fielders was going down with every passing over and Shastri was also really scared of an unlikely Australia win.

Ravi Shastri, while speaking to Sony, tried to be a bit cheeky when Sunil Gavaskar congratulated him on the victory and also informed him about the #ChoddnaMat being used in the Sony promo in India. However, India’s head coach had still not got over the extreme resistance by the Aussies.

“Sach kahe to last mein goti muh mein aa gaye the (To be honest, we almost had balls in our mouth),” Shastri said as all the cricket experts were left in splits in the studio.

Shastri lauds his team

However, Ravi Shastri was extremely delighted with the fact that his team was able to close the Test match this time. He recalled how they had lost the series openers in England and South Africa earlier this year and lauded his boys for an exceptional effort.

” Very very happy with this win. It was a tough, tough Test match. The boys were disciplined and they stuck to their task. We lost in England by 31 runs, we lost a close first match in South Africa by around 60 runs but this is a very good win, feels really good. There’s belief in the team when you get off to a good start,” Shastri added.
