Bangladesh have added opener Soumya Sarkar and middle-order explosive batsman Ariful Haque in the squad for the three-match T20I series against the Windies. After a poor performance in the Test series in which they lost 2-0 convincingly, the visitors came back in a sensational fashion to win the first ODI by 48 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

The T20I series will be beginning on July 31 with the first T20I game at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts, while the second and third T20I matches of the series will be played at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill in Florida.

Both Sarkar and Haque are still an integral part of T20I set-up

Sarkar was earlier appointed as the T20 captain of the Bangladesh A team for the Ireland tour and was also named in the squad for the five ODI games.  He will be joining ‘A’ team after the third one-day match in Ireland. The batsman duo will be leaving from Dhaka tonight, to join the national team. While the likes of Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza, Hossain Shanto and Anamul Haque who are not part of the T20I squad will be returning home after the conclusion of third and final ODI match of the series.

The move is expected as an attempt to strengthen the Bangladesh T20I team for the upcoming series against the host Windies team. The Bangladeshi chief selector Minhajul Abedin mentioned that both Sarkar and Haque are an integral part of the Twenty20 set-up for the national side. In order to get acclimatized to the conditions in the Caribbean, the duo are being sent early ahead of the three-match T20I series. Both these batsmen were also part of the Bangladesh T20I team in their last T20 assignment, which was the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in Dehradun.

“They are expected to leave tonight. Both of them are well placed in our Twenty20 set-up so preferred to send them as they also have acclimatize with the conditions,” said the chief selector in a conversation with Cricbuzz.
